Split/Second is a lot of fun and if you rent games it should be near the top of your ‘to rent' list. If arcade racers are your bag, I can highly recommend Split/Second and with its split-screen multiplayer it would be a great one to keep the kids entertained. The single-player campaign is structured as a reality television show on which you are contestant. Split/Second doesn't do a whole lot with the premise (you won't meet any slimy TV producers or peek in on any bloodthirsty viewers), but each episode's introduction and credit sequence is produced so well that you look forward to seeing what courses you unlock next. A game in the same vein as Burnout, it offers enough that is different in the way of environmental interaction and storyline that it could be considered an improvement. The premise follows that you are involved in a reality TV show called Split/Second, in which drivers compete over a season. The ability to use 'Power Plays' and generate explosions to throw off your opponents in game is really the ace up the sleeve of this game. Read more
