I loved Metro 2033, even with its dodgy enemy AI. In my opinion all the games shortcomings are well and truly made up for by what the game does right. The world of Metro 2033 is painstakingly constructed with design elements skilfully integrated with the gameplay. Metro 2033 is a well-paced shooter that will likely take you more than 10 hours to complete. It is punctuated by emotional and dramatic moments (a surprising encounter with a child, a few intense railcar sequences), though these aren't without their own idiosyncrasies (the immersion-busting "quickly tap x" prompt). Many elements of Metro 2033 aren't quite up to modern shooter standards, but taken as a whole, they come together nicely. Read more

    • Rich, pervasive atmosphere, Intriguingly detailed environments, Rewards exploration and observation, Some clever weapons.
    • Ungainly animations can make combat awkward, Problematic enemy AI, Darkness is sometimes overbearing, Visual blemishes can hinder immersion.

Props to this fledgling studio for both cracking the consoles market and making such a solid game. On top all this, trying some new gameplay design ideas and stretching their storytelling ability. Stalker despite its open world realism was sorely lacking any credible story and Metro more than makes up for it. Read more

Set in the shattered subway of a post apocalyptic Moscow, Metro 2033 is a story of intensive underground survival where the fate of mankind rests in your hands. In 2013 the world was devastated by an apocalyptic event, annihilating almost all mankind and turning the earth’s surface into a poisonous wasteland. A handful of survivors took refuge in the depths of the Moscow underground, and human civilization entered a new Dark Age. The year is 2033. An entire generation…
