I would go as far as saying that Borderlands is a must have game for fans of first-person-shooters  and for fans role-playing-games, as it does such a great job of tying the two together into hybrid of sorts. Mixed with high stylised visuals, blood lust, an almost endless array of weapons and some fast paced action with the co-op mode and you've got a winner. Read more

Genre mixing in video games is nothing new and the most popular genre to get mixed seems to be the RPG. While not everyone has the patience, skill and nous to get around the intricacies and conventions of the genre, aspects such as levelling up seem to be the gun way to give a natural sense of progress. Combine this with the popular FPS genre, along with the newfound popularity of co-operative play, and chances are that you’re on something. Add in a zany, outlandish... Read more

Expanding your abilities and leveling up is one of the main ways that Borderlands consistently rewards you. Loot is another. Loot can be found in containers, dropped by enemies, or given to you as a quest reward. It includes money, ammo, shields, mods that boost and alter your grenades, mods that boost your skills, and, of course, guns. Guns are classified in familiar categories: pistols, submachine guns, shotguns, combat rifles, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, and so... Read more

Borderlands is one of the most pleasant surprises of 2009 – who could have known a cel-shaded FPS with oodles of loot and some lite RPG elements would work so well? The art style is great, the co-op is a blast, and while it's far from perfect, Pandora is a planet well worth exploring. Borderlands is a fun – if not a tad simplistic – shooter that will appeal to the gear junkies and RPG heads as much as it will FPS fans. Read more

Borderlands is leading the way with the new FPS/RPG genre. It strikes a comfortable balance between real-time combat and character advancement. The randomization of weapons keeps you looking for the next big gun, and the drop in / out co-op will have you searching for the Vault with others for a long time. Even if the Vault isn’t found, fans of either genre will find what they’re looking for on Pandora. Read more
