By now, you pretty much know if you like 2-D Mario games or not. They've been around for over 25 years, and most every game has you stepping on enemies … Read more

New Super Mario Bros Wii - overall - is a brilliant platformer. The only real issue being a lack of controller options. It's been a long time coming and the inclusion of four-player multiplayer is just an added bonus when thinking about buying a game that you should own regardless. Now it's time for me to sit down with my all-Rush mix-tape, a two-litre bottle of Shasta and get to finishing 100%. Read more

    • Four-player co-op or competitive play, Classic themes and gameplay married to newer concepts, Nostalgically awesome
    • Seriously missed opportunity in community building and online, No other controller options beyone Wii Remote and Nunchuk, Seriously what's up with some of the techno m...

As with previous Mario games, there are plenty of these secret areas and bonuses to be found, which adds greatly to the replay value of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Each level features star and red coins to collect, as well as the usual warp pipes, hidden blocks, secret extra lives, and more. Collected star coins can be used to unlock bonus movies that show where hidden areas can be found, speed runs, and more. Read more

    • Great level design, Challenging difficulty, Plenty of replay value, Multiplayer can be fun if you're not taking it too seriously.
    • Multiplayer can be frustrating if you're taking it seriously, Motion control-based moves can lead to control lapses, No Classic Controller support.

If all you own is a Wii this Christmas season this is the game to get. Just don't expect it to blow your mind with the new multiplayer feature. Once I finish the game I think it will just sit and collect dust until one of my 10 year old nephews comes round. Pros It's Mario in his 2D glory, as platformers go this is solid. Cons Multiplayer can become frustrating real fast, lack of any modes or mini games outside of the main game. Read more

Conclusion What is perhaps too difficult to put into words is the simple enjoyment you get out of this game. In all honestly, this is one of the most enjoyable games of the year, if not generation, and heck, maybe even ever. It looks, feels, and above all else sounds perfect. Single player is great, co-operative is better, versus is a fun side-dish to the Mario feast, and the only thing that could have made this game any better is the ability to use the Wii’s classic...
