In Patapon 2, a follow-up to the original that received critical acclaim, players are tasked with leading the colorful Patapons, a brave and noble tribe now in an unfamiliar land, through a series of epic battles against the opposing army and gigantic monsters.
Ultimately, this is a deceptive product. It looks infantile, but it's epic in scope. It's no cakewalk, either - even on the easiest setting, you can still expect to get spanked if you make a wrong move. Patapon 2 doesn't drastically change the formula, but substantial tweaks have been made across every aspect of the game. The hero abilities add a new layer to the core gameplay, the new units are brilliantly realised, and the multiplayer game mode is a welcome addition to the series. If you've yet to check out Patapon, then there's still nothing else out there quite like it, and players of the previous game should find new things to love in the sequel. Read more
Patapon 2 is a game you really have to play to understand what it's on about… and even then you probably won't have any more clue… but at least you'll be grinning from ear-to-ear. A great title, regardless of whether you go for the UMD or PSN version. Read more
