A mid-range digital camera is often the best choice for a user who wants an easy to use device but one that will also let them change settings when they want to get creative. Canon's PowerShot SX200 IS is exactly that type of camera. It's the middle child in Canon's PowerShot range, so it won't produce stunning image quality, but it still does an admirable job of capturing reasonably clear and vibrant images. Read more

    • Comfortable to use, 28-336mm zoom lens, accurate face recognition and motion tracking, effective image stabilisation
    • Flash pops up even when it's not needed, images were slightly noisy, images look soft at their maximum resolution, some chromatic aberration

Announced in February, Canon's PowerShot SX200 IS offers a challenge to Panasonic, which has long been the leader in the 'traveller's zoom' digicam category. A 3.0-inch PureColor LCD II screen and mode dial with 13 settings combine to add extra appeal. Read more

Just purchased and have given it a limited trial, but very impressed to date. Images are typical Canon, crisp and sharp. Some of the critics are a bit picky I feel. You would not expect raw on a small compact. If you are a novice then the help on screen and the clear menu system is easy to use. If you are more experienced then it has P, Tv, Av and manual options. The aperture range of 3,5-8 could be limiting. Face detection works well and Canon IS is excellent. Read more
