The HTC Touch Diamond runs on a Qualcomm MSM 7201A 528 MHz processor and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional operating system. In terms of memory, the HTC Touch Diamond has a 256 MB ROM and 192 MB DDR SDRAM, 4 GB worth of internal storage. As for the display, it is of a 2.8 inch TFT LCD flat touch-sensitive screen with VGA resolution. Supported networks include HSDPA/ WCDMA of 900 / 2100 MHz wit up to 384 kbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds, Tri-band GSM/ GPRS/ EDGE of 900/ 1800/ 1900 MHz. Its device control is in the form of TouchFLO 3D and Touch-sensitive navigation control. The HTC Touch Diamond is GPS and A-GPS ready. It can be connected via Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR, Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/g and HTC ExtUSB 11 pin mini-USB 2.0 and audio jack in one. The main camera is of 3.2 mega pixel with auto focus whereas the second camera is a VGA CMOS colour camera. The HTC Touch Diamond runs on rechargeable Lithium-ion or Lithium-ion polymer battery with a capacity of 900 mAh which provides talk time of up to 270 minutes for WCDMA and up to 330 minutes for GSM as well as standby time of up to 396 hours for WCDMA and up to 285 hours for GSM as well as 145 minutes of video call time for WCDMA.

The Touch Diamond, as we have seen, has the necessary qualities to bring in a new wave of innovation and ups the ante for future touch-based Windows Mobile devices. If one were to equate the Diamond moniker with premium pricing, fret not, as HTC has expressed that the Diamond will be available for S$1098, which sees a lower entry price as compared to both the Cruise and TyTN II, and will be retail ready in the month of June. It's very hard to hate the Diamond and in a world obsessed with the iPhone the Diamond offers a viable alternative. Frequent lag spikes did test our patience and the dismal battery life is concerning, but the Diamond still stands out as a beautifully designed smartphone with great features. Read more
