    Parts of the iPhone 3G are superb -- Web browsing, email, App Store, GPS -- but these are met in equal measure by elements which are either absent or mediocre. When we use the iPhone 3G, we can't ignore the vast divide between what the iPhone is and what the iPhone really should be, and when we're being asked to pay a premium for this phone it seems unfair for Apple to not include important smartphone functionality.     If local iPhone pricing emulates what we saw in the US last year, we expect a price drop in two or three months. Until then, check your budget carefully before signing your life away, and make sure you have enough money left over to buy some decent headphones. Read more

Walt Mossberg of the WSJ has been testing it “for a couple of weeks” and sees that surfing on the faster 3G is between three and five times the speed of the original iPhone. The Apple iPhone 3G is a combination of three products in one, namely a phone, a widescreen iPod and an Internet device with rich HTML email and a desktop-class web browser. It features 3G wireless technology, GPS mapping, support for enterprise features like Microsoft Exchange, and the new App Store. It measures 115.5 mm x 62.1 mm x 12.3 mm (H x W x D) in dimension, weighs approximately 4.7 ounces and comes in black or white.

Features

In terms of display, the Apple iPhone 3G features a 3.5 inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display with a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels at 163 ppi and has support for display of multiple languages and characters simultaneously. It has a 8 GB or 16 GB flash drive capacity. As for audio, it has a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, supporting audio formats of AAC, Protected AAC, MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3 and 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF and WAV, as well as user-configurable maximum volume limit. The Apple iPhone 3G also come with stereo earphones with built-in microphone with a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz and an impedance of 32 ohms. Besides that, it supports video formats of H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264 Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats.
